Our Philipsburg, MT Trip - August 2013

The east end of the cabin will be converted to a kitchen yet this fall. On the right side of the picture you can see the stacked pair (washer/dryer). To the left of this is the temporary kitchen sink, which is located where it will be in the final kitchen. The previous owner stubbed the plumbing out for this sink so it was a simple matter to construct a temporary counter and sink for use until the cabinets are finished. We are still working on the final layout for the kitcen but have located the stove position on the north wall near the outlet near the small broiler oven.

Fortunately the bathroom was previously installed and the only thing we changed was turning the toilet 90-degrees from its original position. We are not sure who or how the decision was made to position the toilet as we found it but it was quickly determined that turning it as you see it in this picture made the best sense. The bathroom features a pedestal sink, toilet, and large fiberglass shower enclosure. It is also where the 50-gallon electric water heater is located as well as the pump controls. We added the mirror above the sink as the seller took his small hand mirror that was hanging on a nail with him.

This trip was loosely planned because of the trouble getting the home loan established because the cabin was not a cabin, it was a garage that wanted to be a cabin. Parents, in our opinion, can only hope and pray that their children are happy in whatever they do. And this trip became our attempt to assist one of our sons to make his dream come true. After ten long hard days of work we prepared to leave Philipsburg with a cabin for Gary to call his full time home. The picture below shows the cabin that changed very little on the outside, but inside it is a warm snug home featuring a bedroom, bathroom, temporary kitchen, and a living space that will offer years of comfort for Gary. Our goals were met entirely and it gave us an opportunity to live out a dream as well, the dream of sharing what we do best with one of our sons.

Project finished.

This phase of the project is complete, in the weeks ahead we will work with Gary on a kitchen plan and hope to transport kitchen cabinets from my shop to his home before the snow flies (we have no plans to "winter over" in his cabin). At this time Gary has a lot of work to do in getting settled and we have every confidence he will put every effort into settling in quickly.
