Central Avenue Estherville, Iowa

This is a postcard from the late 1950's or early 1960's that represents the way Central Avenue looked when we grew up in Estherville. This is the corner of Central Avenue and North 6th Street. Iowa Trust and Savings bank is on the left with the time and temperature sign and Estherville Drug is on the right.

The next postcard is very much the same as the first, except the view is form the middle of the block between 5th and 6th Streets. the other diference is that it shows a 2-lane Central Avenue with angle parking instead of the 4-lane street with parallel parking. We are not sure when this change occured but you can note that the rist card shows vehicles from the middle to late 1950's whereas the second card shows cars from the mid to late 1940's.
