Notes for Dewalt KINZEY

Dewalt and Sarah Kinzey (also Kinsey, Kinzie, Kinzley) are the parents of John S. Kinzey who married Ester V. Breyfogle. They are recorded here as a reference to this marriage and John's background. We suspect that the multiple spellings of the surname are directly related to enumerators since this change in spelling occurs as John and Ester record themselves on future census periods.

Dewalt and Sarah Kinsey are living in Schellsburg, Bedford, PA with their son John S. and Christian W. Kinsey. Dewalt is listed as a cooper. All family members are listed as being born in Pennsylvania.

Dewalt and Sarah Kinzley moved to Iowa prior to the birth of their son Amos, who was born about 1856. They are living on a farm near Tipton, IA and it appears that they have lost their son Christian as he is not listed and would be too young to be living on his own. They have two additional children that were born in Iowa, the family now includes their son John, working as a farm laborer, Sarah, and Amos, who is the first child of the Kinzey's born in Iowa. Dewalt is listed as a farmer.

Dawalt and Sarah Kinsey, along with John S. Sarah Ann, Amos, and Kate are living and farming in Center Township near Tipton, IA. John, who is now 27 years old, is listed as a farmer but there is no indication if he is farming with his father or working his own farm.

Dewalt Kinzie is living in Center Twp with his son Amos and daughter Catharine (listed as Kate in 1870 Census). His wife Sarah is not listed and Catharine is listed as keeping house so it is assumed that Sarah passed away prior to this census. His son John has married and moved to Kansas leaving Amos to take over the farming with his father. This is the final census that Dewalt appears on so it is suspected that he passed away prior to 1900. Amos and Catharine could not be found either but with the number of potential spellings and the fact that he may have left Iowa make the search difficult.
