Notes for Godfrey OLSON

The search for Mary Jane (Olson) Aylesworth's parents began with several small personal notices in the Valparaiso newspaper. Several references were made to family visits to grandmother's home in Chicago. Although the census data appears to represent Mary Jane's family group we must state that it has not been documented beyond the entries matching Mary's birth year, birth location, and the fact that the family would visit Chicago to visit Mrs. Jeanette Olson.

Godfrey and Jeanette P. Olson list one daughter living with them. Mary J. is 8 years old and born in Illinois. Godfrey lists Sweden as his birth location with Jeanette listing Illinois. Godfrey lists his employment as a tower man with the rapid transit system. It is assumed that this rapid transit system is what is known as the "L". The Chicago "L" system, we have learned, was a unification of lines operated by competing companies. These companies were unified about 1924, although many of the operations of the previous companies were maintained as divisions of the united unit.

Michael and Linda Ayllesworth went to Chicago Friday evening, where they visited their grandmother, Mrs. Jeanette Olson. They attended the theatre on Saturday night where they enjoyed "Peter Pan." On Sunday, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Aylesworth and their four younger children motored to Chicago to Mrs. Olson's home, where they enjoyed a birthday dinner in celebration of the February birthdays of Mrs. Olson, an aunt, Mrs. C. W. Davidson, and Aylesworth. They returned on Sunday evening.
