Fred is living on East 73rd Street, Chicago, IL with his half sister, Abigail (Cowley) Young and her husband Charles W. Fred (full named spelled Frederick Brafogle) is listed as a machinist at a steel factory.

SOURCE: 1910 Federal Census Chicago, Cook, IL

Fred Earl Breyfogel was living on Overland Drive, Scottsbluff, NE when he registered for the WWI draft. He listed his mother, Jennie Breyfogel [Sarah Jennie (Wells) Breyfogle] of 8126 Kenwood Avenue, Chicago, Cook, IL as his closest living relative also noting that he was single at the time. He was working as a laborer at a Sugar Factory in Scottsbluff, Nebraska. He was listed as 6-foot tall, medium build with blue eyes and dark hair.

Fred and his wife, Lotty M. are living in Sundance, Wyoming where Fred is listed as a farmer, they have been married for one year.

SOURCE: 1930 Federal Census Sundance, Crook, WY

EDITORS NOTE:

Fred and his wife Lotty [AKA Lottie] are a real mystery as there is very little information about either of these individuals. Fred first appears on the 1900 Federal Census Morgan, Porter, IN with his parents, Benjamin Franklin and Sarah Jennie (Wells) Breyfogle. Fred is also listed on the 1910 Federal Census Chicago, Cook, IL living with his half sister Abigail and there is a very odd spelling of his name. The next reference is his WWI draft registration, and as shown he was single and living in Scottsbluff, Nebraska. We were unable to find him listed on the 1910 or 1920 census but he does show up on the 1930 Federal Census farming in Sundance, Crook, WY. Another on-line reference is the mention of him in the obituary for his half sister, Abigail C. (Cowley) Henry, where he is reported to be living in Upton, WY. This obituary, dated April 5, 1958, spells his name in the conventional manner although his WWI draft card clearly shows him spelling his last name in the older version. We avoid drawing this distinction on the Census Forms since we understand that the enumerators often spelled the names the way they sounded, but the draft card was made out in person so assume this was his preferred spelling. The only other reference at this point is the cemetery records where this couple is buried. The transcription (see fragment below) is the record only and does not indicate the inscription on the headstones. These records use Fred's spelling of Breyfogel.

MT MORIAH, CROOK COUNTY, WYOMING

The first cemetery in Sundance, Wyoming. I copied these records with permission from the clerk's office in Sundance. They were on a rolodex, there isn't a lot of information on them. I copied them
literally, didn't try to correct or guess at any of the dates, some of them aren't real clear. Some day I will go back and get tombstone inscriptions. I hope these records are of some help to someone.
