Notes for Simon BEVINS

Simon Bevins, age 44 and living in Meriden, Cherokee, IA, registered for the WWI Draft listing himself as a farm laborer for R. H. Patrick in the same location. He listed his mother Mary as his closest relative and also documented his height at tall with medium build, blue eyes and light brown hair.

Editors Note:

The 1930 Federal Census listed Simon as the head of household living on 3rd Street, Meriden, Cherokee County, IA. His occupation was listed as a laborer doing odd jobs. He had no other persons living with him and owned his home, which had an estimated value of $800.

The headstone for Simon is inscribed with the dates 1870 - 1942. The birth year disagrees with other sources and is noted here for future reference.
