Thomas M. Kirk, 80, of Garden City, died Wednesday, May 22, 2002, at Scott County Hospital in Scott City.

He was born Nov. 2, 1921, in Scott County, the son of J.E. and Della Blachly Kirk. He grew up in Scott County, graduated from Scott City High School and attended Kansas State University before entering the U.S. Army during World War II.

After returning to Scott City, he was the owner of Kirk Grain Co. He later became the manager of the Breyfogle Ranch and moved to Garden City in 1975. He was a member of the VFW of Scott City and enjoyed collecting western art.

On Dec. 11, 1948, he married Doris E. Breyfogle at Loveland, Colo. She died Sept. 12, 1996. He was also preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Harold, Robert, Henry and Harlam Kirk; and two sisters, Geneva Mortensen and Coriene Kirk.

Survivors include a brother, Art Kirk, Spokane, Wash.; and three sisters, Joy Ottaway and Helen Bastin, both of Scott City, and Mary Belle Eberly, Needham, Mass.

Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Garnand Funeral Home, Garden City, with the Rev. Michael McGuire officiating. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery, Garden City.

Visitation hours are from noon to 8 p.m. Sunday and Monday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Nature's Conservancy or Park Lane Nursing Home, both in care of the funeral home, 412 N. Seventh St.
