The newspaper obituary continues, "On coming to Winthrop they bought a farm a short distance from town on which they lived and where he pursued the business of farming with the industry, perseverance and economy pre-eminently characteristic of the German race. Prior to having engaged in farmin he worked ar the blacksmiths trade which he digently pursued from the early age of 17 until he was about 48 making thirty-one years in which we find further evidence of the untiring industry and devotion so essential to success in any calling and which had always been characteristic of Mr. Wininger's career."
