My grandfather Thomas Marion moved his family from Calumet Iowa to Marshall, MN around 1915. My dad told me that they moved via the train.

Thomas M. and his wife Margaret V. Breyfogle are living and farming in Lake Marshall, Lyon, Minnesota. They list 10 children in the family and are renting the farm they are working. The location is not identified beyond "Section Road," which is typical for rural residents at that time.

Finding this family in the 1930 census period was difficult based on the fact that the enumerator obviously could not spell. Instead the gentleman (his signature is unreadable) recorded the family as follows:

Beyfogle, Tamos - head
Margaret - wife
Marrian - son
Mikel - son
Harold - son
Cliford - son
Lennard - son
Nella - daughter
Margaret - daughter
Earl - son
Hourd - son
They were found by searching all of Lyon County, MN for the head of household born in 1882 +/- 2 years with a wife named Margaret. This produced about 6-census forms, the first of which was Famos Beyfogle [transcription error mistaking T for F]. By comparing the misspelled names to the names previously known it was obvious this was the correct family group. The family reports renting the farm that they are working.
