Notes for Lars Christian Spangaard JENSEN

The tradition in Denmark at that time was for the oldest son to take his mother's maiden name as his last name. The rest of the children use the fahter's last name. In Denmark this person was known as Lars Christian Spangaard. When he came to the US at the age of 19 he dropped the Spangaard because it was hard for people to pronounce and spell.

Lars C. Jensen, 26 and living in Cleghorn, IA, registered for the WWI Draft and indicated he was a farm laborer working for Mr. Nielson (first name unreadable, middle name Peter). He was single and did not appear to be a citizen, although the entry appears to be something other than in the English language. He was medium height and build with blue eyes and "medium" hair color.
