Notes for Charles Henry WHITACRE

Contributor writes:

Charles began a life long career with Rock Island railroad in 1944. He had previously worked for several farmers in the Estherville/Gruver area. Following a brief interruption to serve in the US Navy during World War II Charles returned to work on the railroad. His job title was carman and in a eulogy at his funeral a nephew described the work as tending to derailed trains.

Charles also worked at the Estherville Golf and Country Club as a grounds keeper for two years as well as working part-time for Northwest Iowa Masonry. He was a member of the American Legion Post #91 in Estherville and enjoyed bowling, golf, camping, and fishing.
