Notes for Harold James MILLER

Both Flora Grumman and Lewis W. Breyfogle referred to this person as Harold Miller. Data from census files also referred to him in this manner and added a middle initial of J. The WWI Draft Registration card produced James Harold Miller and as the birth month, year, and location line up with other data it is assumed this is the same person. Since this is the only form showing this difference in name order we are leaving it as it appeared in earlier work.

Harold provided a full birth date as well as the same address as his brother Seneca, 345 Spring, Reading, PA. His employment was listed as Magazine Salesman with the Central News Company, which is more than likely his father's business. Census data differs on employment but since this draft registration is in the middle of a census period his employment is assumed to have changed. He records his height and build as medium, blue eyes, and black hair.

There is a handwritten note at the bottom of the card that indicates, "Handed to E. S. Rich and card numbered and certificate mailed." The handwriting does not match Harold's nor the signature of the draft board membe
