James and Ellen continue to live in Reading, PA where James owns a bookstore. His son George is working as a bookkeeper for a Real Estate Company. Harold, the couples 6th child is working as an apprentice at a stove factory. It is assumed that the Miller's neighbor, E. Richard Meinig, owns this factory as this recent German immigrant is listed as the owner of a stove factory.

Further research reveals that during this time there was a railroad that was known as the Mt. Penn Gravity Railroad and it is assumed that this is his place of employment. Helen is listed as a stenographer and Grace is a teacher in a public school.

EDITORS NOTE: Flora Grumman and Lewis W. Breyfogle recorded James and Ellen as having 9 children. Current research has followed this family group from 1880 through 1930 and the children named Ellen and Howard do not appear on any of these forms. Since the 1890 census is not available due to a fire in the archives, there is no way to determine if these children were born during this period or between any of the census cycles and died as infants.
