Notes for Raymond PARIS

Ray Paris Newspaper excerpts:

The "Pilot's Mound of News", a school newspaper reported that Ray Paris was elected to the Student Council during his Freshman year in Pilot Mound School.

It seems that the boys started off their spring baseball with a bang, defeating Boxholm 3 to 1. Bernie did an excellent job of pitching, causing 13 strikeouts and allowing only 3 hits. Ray Paris led our team in scoring with a double and a single. Don Anderson pitched of Boxholm.

Sectional Games

Pilot Mound won its first round game of the Sectional tournament; beating Stratford 4 - 3. Ray Paris hurled the first five innings for Pilot, striking out 7 men and allowing 4 hits.

Pilot lost to Dayton in the semi-finals of the sectional tournament at Stratford by a score of 5 - 3. Pilot had a 3 - 0 lead at the end of the third inning but Dayton bunched a couple of hits and a couple of errors to tie it up. In the last inning Dayton capitalized on an error to score its winning runs. Landals pitched fine ball for Pilot getting 13 strikeouts.

Pilot Mound Juniors Present "Hobgoblin House"

Members of the Pilot Mound high school's Junior class presented "Hobgoblin House" this Monday and Tuesday night with a good attendance on hand each night. The play, a three-act mystery, was well done by the cast of characters, which included the following:

Darine Krupp, caretaker, James Lind; Miss Priscilla Carter, owner, Elenor Carlson; Marian Carter, niece, Shirley Casotti; Jill Carter, younger sister, Sue Bennett; Frank Harlow, Marian's fiancé, Darrell Zunkel; Jack Loring, Jill's fiancé, Dean Ingalls; Susan Perkins, housekeeper, Marjorie Swanson; Henry Goober, darky caretaker, Darlene Duncan; Delilah Wertz, darky cook, Shirley Erickson; bluebeard Bronson, escaped inmate, Ray Paris; Bill Wilkins, his keeper, Gene Johnson; Patricia Arnold, heiress, Mary Runyon; the Headless Phantom, ????

Members of the trio composed of Shirley Casotti, Eleanor Carlson, and Sue Bennett sang "Stars are the Windows of Heaven" and Delores Carlson sang "I Wanna Be Loved" between the acts of the play.

Raymond "Ray" Paris, 70, of Fraser died of cancer June 5, 2004, at home.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Schroeder Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall streets with the Rev. Michael Casperson officiating. Burial will be in the Pilot Mound Cemetery.

He was born in Fraser on May 28, 1934, the son of Cloyd and Olive (Martz) Paris. He married Cecelia Williams at Blue Earth, Minn., Dec. 30, 1959. Ray graduated from Pilot Mound High School in 1952.

In earlier years, from 1957 to 1981, he was a pipe inspector for W.S. Dickey Clay and Tile in Lehigh. He later was a meat butcher working in Gowrie, then worked for Swigert's Meats in Ogden, Golden Corral in Boone and finally for Harlan's Super Value in Story City, retiring in August of 2003.

Ray served as a member of the school boards of Fraser and Grand Community Schools and served as a Fraser City Council member. He was an avid Cubs baseball fan. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, breeding beagles and English spaniels, and raised many wild game birds. He loved to cook and garden.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Larry, Cloyd, and Bill; three sisters, Betty Keeler, Geraldine Woodyard, and Ruth Paris. He is survived by his wife, Cecelia, of Fraser; three sons, Jeff Paris and wife, Deb, and Mike Paris, all of Fraser, and Joe Paris and wife, Dawn, of Ogden; two daughters, Nancy Habrich and Tammy Paris-Walker and husband, Cory, all of Boone; four sisters, Patricia Casotti and husband, Dean, and Judy Sondall and husband, Don, all of Boone, Jan Patterson and husband, Marvin "Pat" of Ogden, and Waneta King and the late Bob of Boxholm; one brother-in-law, Bum Keeler, of Estherville; eight grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the Schroeder Memorial Chapel from noon until 9 p.m. Tuesday with the family present from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Visitation continues Wednesday at the chapel from 8 a.m. until service time. Memorials may be directed to the family for its discretion.
