Notes for Merle Edward BREYFOGLE

Merle ran filling stations in Alta, Iowa. He prided himself with his tire service and hand rubbed Simonize wax jobs, a real art in the early 1900's.

BREYFOGLE, MERLE EDWARD

Alta

Born September 20, 1898. Enl. May 7, 1917. Seaman on USS Wisconsin. Promoted from apprentice seaman to seaman. Trained at Newport, Rhode Island; sent to receiving ship at Boston; to New York; to U. S. S. Wisconsin- sin, general service on U. S. S. Wisconsin, cruising on Atlantic Coast, the work of the ship being to train naval men for service; cruised in summer of 1919 for midshipman training. Mustered out at G. L. N. T. S., August 3, 1919.
